Step Two.

Clean and Dry the Mounting Surfaces Around Your Doorway:

  1. With warm “damp” washcloth and mild soap & water, thoroughly clean any dust/debris from the door/window trim and baseboards around the door/window where you are intending to install the device. Allow the area to completely dry after properly cleaning.

Step Three.

Attach Light-Strands to the Device Housing:

  1. Gently uncoil the 2 enclosed LightSaver Light-Strands™ and insert the plug ends of both into female jacks in both ends of the device (they plug in just like a telephone handset) and push the Light-Strand wire underneath the Hold-Down Arms on each side where the Light-Strand exits the side of the device.

Step Four.

Install Battery and Pre-Test:

  1. Write the date on your battery and open the battery hatch cover on the front of the device and write the date of your purchase on the inside of the cover for future reference. Insert the battery into the battery housing. Be sure that you MATCH “+” to “+” and “-” to “-”. The device should automatically flash 3-4 times to let you know that the battery is properly installed. Close battery hatch.
  2. With the device sitting on your stepstool near the door where you are installing it, TEST the L-100 with your nearest smoke detector/alarm. Press the Test button on the smoke detector allowing it to sequence through its alarms for at least 15 seconds to insure that your smoke detector’s alarm will trigger the L-100 device. Once triggered, the Light-Strands should flash for 30 seconds, your L-100 can now hear your smoke alarms.

Step Five.

Select and Mark Location where you will attach the Device to the Wall:

  • Measure and mark location to center the device above the door where you will want it to sit when installed.

Step Six.

Attach the Device to the Wall Above Your Door:

  1. Close and Lock door. Allowing the Light-Strands to hang straight down, remove the tape’s protective strip from the top of the tape strips/squares on the back of the device, center the device on the pencil mark that you just made, and press LightSaver firmly against the wall and into place. [Note: Tape strip/squares may need to be attached if provided separately. If so, apply them to the back of the device across the center of the back of the device spacing them evenly apart from one another].
  2. Gently run the light strands along the outer periphery of the door along the door trim and along the top of the base board to determine “generally” where you will want to terminate (trim) the light strand (in the next step) and mark the location with your pencil. Measure and mark both Light-Strands on both sides of the door.

Step Seven.

Apply the Tubed Super Clear LightSaver Silicone Adhesive:

READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ADHESIVE WARNINGS AND USE DIRECTIONS INCLUDED IN THIS USER’S MANUAL. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS ADHESIVE MATERIAL, SEE THE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS) PUBLISHED ON OUR WEBSITE AT: www.lightsavertechnologies.com

  1. Use scissors to cut “just the very end of the tip of the applicator tip” (nozzle) at THE FIRST MARK on the tip. DO NOT CUT OFF TOO MUCH OF THE TIP. Open the tube of adhesive (use the top end of the adhesive screw-cap to puncture and open the end of the tube) and screw the applicator tip (nozzle) onto the tube.
  2. Starting at the top near the device, holding the tube and dispensing tip (nozzle) at a 45° angle, lay a small consistent even bead of the adhesive (about the size of the Light-Strand diameter) in as straight a line as is possible on the wall along the edge where the door trim meets the wall (i.e, where you want the light-strand to lay). Roll the tube (like a tube of toothpaste) as needed to create pressure on the material to dispense easier and more evenly. Stop the adhesive bead at your pencil mark where the wire will end.
  3. Starting where the Light-Strand comes out of the device at the top of the door and keeping the wire fairly taught in your hands as you move along the door periphery, gently press the wire into the bead of adhesive that you just laid down pushing the Light-Strand wire snuggly down into place along the length of the door and the baseboard [ATTENTION! ATTACH THE LIGHT-STRANDS WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF LAYING THE ADHESIVE BEAD ON EACH SIDE. Remove excess adhesive immediately.
  4. If needed, Use scissors to trim the wire at desired length. Place a small amount of the adhesive in the open end of one of the enclosed wire end-caps (end-covers) and place the cap securely over the end of the light strand and press the wire into place.
  5. REPEAT: Repeat steps #6 through #10 (one at a time) for the other Light-Strand on the other side of the doorway when first Light-Strand is fully attached.

Step Eight.

Re-Test the Device:

  1. Re-Test the device by pressing and holding the Test Button. The Light-Strands should flash 3 times.
  2. With the device now installed, Re-test the L-100 again with your nearest smoke detector/alarm.

Note: You may want to purchase a new smoke detector to place near the LightSaver. Your local home improvement retailer will typically offer dozens of types, sizes and styles. If you install a new smoke detector, always test it with the LightSaver device prior to installing it.
